Summary

6 month role with training included, as part of Artswork's Breakthrough programme, which helps young people secure their first job in the arts. The Breakthrough programme is open to any young person between the ages of 16 –25, with qualifications gained up to school or college level. (It is not suitable for those with qualifications at level 5 or above). This placement is at Bethlem Gallery.

Job description

Bethlem Gallery is seeking a part-time Gallery Assistant Intern to assist with the
many aspects of running a gallery, including supporting with exhibition and art fair
preparation. This is an exciting role for someone with good organisational skills
and a learning attitude, to work with a dynamic team of staff and artists. This role
is based on-site, within a working hospital.
• Working with the gallery team across a range of activities.
• Helping support the gallery and artists with preparation for our annual art
fair.
• Assisting with catalogues management and updating the art fair pricelist.
• Handling art fair and gallery enquiries.
• Providing information about artworks and artists.
• Welcoming visitors into the gallery and maintaining the gallery space.
• Working on evaluation projects.
• Carrying out visitor surveys.
• Maintaining a tidy and well-presented gallery in compliance with Health and
Safety legislation.
• Assisting with maintaining the high standards of customer service required
in the Gallery areas.
• Maintaining the gallery’s record systems.
• Ensuring artworks are logged, priced, and updated on the gallery’s data
base and client records on a regular basis.
• Attending gallery openings and performing various event duties.

Bethlem Gallery is a visual arts organisation and charity in south-east London. We
programme creative activities, projects and commissions to participate in, look at,
talk and think about.
Based at Bethlem Royal Hospital and working across South London and the UK,
we support the professional development and practice of our artists, many of
whom have experienced mental health services.
We bridge communities, aiming to make art an everyday practice and mental
health an everyday conversation.
Our programme includes collaborations with other cultural and health
organisations including Bethlem Museum of the Mind, with whom we share a
building, artists-in-residence, and interdisciplinary research.
