About The Role

If you want to take your first step into a career supporting young people to achieve their potential then we would love to hear from you.

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Youth Development Worker, with a focus on sport and well-being, at Plymouth Foyer – supported accommodation for young people aged 16-25.

We take a strength based approach, called Advantaged Thinking, in all the work we do; encouraging young people experiencing homelessness to aim high, dream big and fulfil their ambitions.

What will my working week look like?

Youth Development Workers work on a 3 week rolling rota: shifts can include 8am-4pm, 10am -6pm, and 12.30pm-12.30pm, and are part of a multidisciplinary team on site supporting the young people who can live with us for a maximum of 2 years. The role includes some element of lone working, but only for short periods of time.

Every day is different; you could be delivering 1-2-1 support sessions on life skills, reviewing an action plan, supporting a young person to a medical appointment, contributing to a multi-agency meeting or supporting group activities as part of the learning programme. In addition to this, as a specialist in Sport and Wellbeing you will inspire young people to engage and achieve, experience success and fulfil their potential; focussing on removing barriers to participation and offering opportunities that are accessible to all young people.

You will deliver a range of engagement activities to young people focused on sport, fitness, personal development and wellbeing.

What will I be responsible for doing?

First and foremost, you will be providing key worker support to a small group of our young people. Working through support and action plans, updating risk assessments and risk management plans with them, in order for them to develop the life skills necessary to move on and live independently in the community.

As a new role in our service, you will have the opportunity to build and develop the role to meet the needs of our young people, whilst bringing your own personality to the role. Our young people come from a wide range of backgrounds and we try to mirror that in our team of colleagues.

This role is being offered on a full time basis, working 37 hours per week on a rolling rota, to include Bank Holidays and weekend working. Bandwidth hours will be 8 am to 8.30 pm.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups, and expect all colleagues to share this commitment. Appointment to the post will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

If you would like to discuss this vacancy, please contact our Resourcing team on 01392 814 599 or email careers@livewest.co.uk.

- A tenacity in seeking the best outcomes for young people.
- A good understanding of young people’s needs, safeguarding and emotional and mental health issues.
