We are looking for a GP Out of Hours Driver working out of Macclesfield District General Hospital on a Permanent 20 Hours per week plus a Zero Hour Contract, covering evenings and weekend shifts transporting the GP from the Hospital to various locations based at Macclesfield Hospital - Also, a Zero Hours contract for the service at Leighton Hospital based a Crewe – Patient addresses or Care.

Job Introduction:

To provide a safe, timely and effective driving and support service for the GP Out of Hours Service

Role Responsibility:

Key result areas, key tasks and main duties:

To undertake all GP journeys in accordance with appropriate Safe Systems of Work and the agreed Transportation Protocols
To complete vehicle checks prior to use and to notify any defects directly to the Operations Manager verbally and by recording on appropriate documentation
To ensure the necessary medical, hygiene, comfort and reference equipment is complete and in the vehicle prior to call out
Maintain the hygiene, tidiness and cleanliness of the vehicle both internally and externally at all times using the relevant safe systems of work and infection control procedures
To carry out the agreed start up and close down procedures at all sites
Maintain accurate, legible and retrievable records for all operational systems using both manual and computerised systems

Equipment:
To ensure all equipment is in working order reporting any defects without delay to the Out of Hours Team Leader and also using appropriate documentation

Meetings and Communication:



Maintain regular communication with the Out of Hours manager to ensure effective and consistent delivery of service to meet the requirements of the customer.
Liaise with all drivers of the division on commencement and completion of each shift in order to communicate and resolve any relevant issues.
To maintain regular contact with the Out of Hours Office using the range of communications systems provided ensuring that all messages are taken in a clear and legible style and conveyed to relevant personnel without delay
According to the needs of the service be familiar with the electronic on-call master rota to mobilise the additional crew member ensuring that all changes are documented
Must be contactable during normal working hours, should any rota changes occur.

Customer Service:
To act in a polite and courteous manner to all staff, patients, relatives/carers and road users at all times.
To be clean and tidy whilst on duty wearing uniform and personal protective equipment as provided
To complete all documentation required by legislation and organisational procedures. To collate and return all such documentation to the operations office at the end of each shift
To notify the Operations Manager without delay of any accident or incident in which the driver(s) and or the patient/carer may have been involved.
To inform without delay the designated person/customer of any such accident, incident or significant change of circumstances that involve the patient or passengers in your care, acting swiftly according to the advice given, advising relevant personnel of changes to route, journey or expected journey time
To respond as necessary to reasonable requests for assistance made by any of the out of hours service staff and carry out ad hoc duties as requested
To work as a solo driver to provide safe and timely transportation of staff, patients/carers who are ambulant or with a range of mobility requirements using the equipment provided. This service to be provided at all times in a professional manner and preserving the respect and dignity of the individual
To participate in an on-call rota to ensure the needs of the service are met at all times by qualified and trained personnel
Act as a positive role model in terms of good example and motivation to other staff within the company.

The Ideal Candidate:
Good communication skills
Good literacy and numeracy skills
Ability to carry out manual handling including the lifting of patients and equipment.
Proven ability to handle sensitive situations professionally, assertively and tactfully
Basic IT skills e.g. word, e-mail
Must be able to successfully complete the training course for role for a GP Out of Hours Driver which involves a formal assessment following clinical and driver training.
Must be willing to undertake training in line with requirements of the post.
