The borough of Basildon is alive with opportunity and has the ingredients to be one of the most successful and desirable places in the South East. As the largest economy in the Thames Estuary outside London, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved but we are never complacent. We are driving inclusive, sustainable growth to provide opportunity and prosperity for local people and businesses, access to quality homes, vibrant town centres and an enhanced local environment.

Senior Governance Officers form part of the Council's Committee, Member and Executive Service, which operates at the heart of the Council's democratic and decision-making process. The post of Senior Governance Officer is a key role that operates as part of a small team providing a high-quality service to support meetings of the Council, and its committees.

The role entails comprehensive oversight of the organisation's meeting coordination and management processes. This includes scheduling, servicing, and harmonising the activities of Cabinet, Committees, Sub-Committees, and Panels, while adhering to legal mandates and the Council's Constitution. The incumbent assumes responsibility for creating meeting agendas, gathering, and reviewing relevant materials, and preparing reports within tight timeframes. They attend meetings, provide procedural, legal, and constitutional guidance to Members, and execute decisions by drafting letters and further reports. The role necessitates offering procedural and constitutional advice to Members and facilitating the Council's democratic processes and decision-making.

Additionally, the role involves preparing high-quality reports for various Council bodies, coordinating meetings, fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to innovative operational strategies. The individual supports Member Development, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and offering training on relevant matters. They function as the initial point of contact for newly elected Members, organize induction events, and maintain the report management system to facilitate effective democratic processes. The role encompasses ongoing monitoring of legislative changes affecting decision-making, promoting cross-functional collaboration, and driving continual service improvement. It also entails performing other appropriate duties within the framework of Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and relevant legal considerations.

If you would like to be part of Basildon's success, we look forward to receiving your application.
