Summary

JC Accountants is a long-established accountancy practice, based in Sunderland, and we are looking for an Accounts & Payroll Assistant to work within our small friendly team based at our office on the edge of Sunderland City Centre
The hours of work are 37 hours per week.
We are looking for someone with AAT Level 3 or 4 or working towards Level 4.
We are a flexible company to work for and provide progression opportunities to AAT Level 4 and on to ACA.
We are looking for someone who is capable of communicating with our clients, either face to face or over the telephone, and also with HMRC.
We need someone who can work to immovable deadlines with a wide variety of clients, so each day will be different.
The successful applicant should have all round knowledge and experience of managing a number of clients: from book-keeping through to preparing VAT returns, tax returns and accounts for sole traders, individuals, partnerships and limited companies to draft stage, and answering client queries, as a minimum.
If you have payroll experience, that will be a bonus but is not essential as training will be given. You will be expected to successfully complete any payroll training that we deem necessary, and then take your place in the payroll team. Currently we use Bright Pay payroll software.
Ideally you will have experience of Sage Accounting Online and/or Xero, or other software packages.

List of duties and requirements:
Client book-keeping.
Completion and submission of VAT returns.
Reconciliation of bank and cash accounts, either on spreadsheet or in software.
Preparing accounts and tax returns on spreadsheets and keying them into tax filing software.
As a member of the payroll team you will help prepare & check weekly and monthly payrolls along with CIS & pension submissions.


Benefits Package:
Starting salary of £25,000pa, rising to £25,500pa on successful completion of a six month probationary period and any payroll training required
Salary on successful completion of AAT Level 4 completed will be £26,500 pa
37 hours per week – Monday to Thursday 9-5pm, Friday 9-4.30pm.
Currently the firm does not offer overtime, but in exceptional circumstances it may be offered, but does not have to be accepted.
28 days holiday inclusive of Bank Holidays with 1 extra day’s holiday earned after every complete year of service, capped at 5 extra days.
Free staff parking in our private car park, on a rota system.
We are an Accredited ICAEW Training Firm, and as such we offer subsidised study to AAT Level 4 and then through ACA if required.
