We have an exciting opportunity within the cancer psychological service for a motivated and skilled assistant psychologist. The role will offer the opportunity for development in a range of skills and competencies supported by a friendly and expanding team within the Psychological Services department at Hull University Teaching Hospitals.
The successful applicant will demonstrate a capacity to maintain a compassionate approach to patients and staff in the face of significant distress. We are looking for someone who is proactive with a good range of communication, IT and organisational skills to assist in the development of the cancer psychological service.
The post will be managed within the wider Department of Psychological Services, which is a rapidly expanding and forward thinking team of psychologists and psychological therapists. The post will be supported with regular supervision from experienced qualified clinicians, access to peer support and professional development opportunities.
The proposed interview date will be Thursday 15 August 2024.
The post holder will contribute to high-quality patient care in a cancer psychology setting, offering psychological support individually and in group settings under the supervision of a clinical psychologist. They will work alongside clinical nurse specialist teams, be involved in developing and co-facilitating training and participate in research and audit activities.
There will be opportunities for delivering training to other staff as guided by a supervisor, ensuring compliance with record-keeping guidelines, and engaging in service-related research under supervision. Additionally, they will work within the code of ethics and professional practice guidelines, keeping abreast of developments in clinical psychology.

The post holder will actively contribute to high quality patient care within the cancer psychological service. This will include direct contact with patient to deliver psychological information and low-level interventions on a one-to-one basis and within group settings, under the supervision of a clinical psychologist.
The post holder will have opportunity to be actively involved in service development and have a role in innovative projects to guide future initiatives within the service.
The post holder may give specialist advice, and provide training and teaching for different audiences, under the direction of a clinical psychologist and will be responsible for maintaining agreed standards, including record keeping.
The post holder will follow Trust and departmental policies, and comment on proposals when required. They will keep up to date with service and professional policies, procedures and standards.
The post holder will participate in service related research as guided by their supervisor. Under the guidance of a clinical psychologist, they will prepare, carry out and write up relevant research or audit projects, independently or jointly with other professionals.
The post holder will maintain and store all patient records according to Trust and professional guidelines. They will securely process and store private and sensitive information, write clear and concise clinical notes, and contribute to reports when required for different audiences (e.g. patients, carers, staff, professionals).The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance and care of the resources within their clinical services.The post holder will work within the code of ethics and the relevant professional practice guidelines of the British Psychological Society, as well as the policies, professional framework and standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the Trust, under the guidance of weekly clinical supervision. The post holder will also keep up to date with developments in clinical psychology.
