Applications are invited for a Clinical Research in Rheumatology to support clinical research within the Scleroderma Research Programme This twelve-month clinical research fellow post is available from September 2024.
This is an outstanding opportunity to gain experience working in a major internationally renowned scleroderma centre. It will provide training in clinical trials and translational medicine as well as scleroderma and its major complications. It would suit someone at the end of their rheumatology training who wishes to gain experience in clinical trials, or an individual considering a career in rheumatology wishing to obtain more exposure to the speciality in an exciting and stimulating academic environment.
The successful applicant will provide day to day support of on-going clinical trials and other studies. The clinical and research priorities of this post are those related to work as a co-investigator in clinical trials and other observational cohort studies to support and assist the principal investigators though appropriate delegated responsibilities. It is however expected that the fellow will also have opportunity for personal research and other clinical work in rheumatology.
The post holder will join a team of trainees and consultants in the Scleroderma service. Duties will include, under consultant supervision, clinical care of patients attending the Scleroderma services including those participating in the clinical trials and liaising with colleagues to ensure they receive the best standard of clinical care. The post holder will work in the capacity of Registrar.
Training in Scleroderma is provided and there are weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
The clinical research fellow will be available to work on clinical research projects in scleroderma, and General Rheumatology. This post provides medical support for clinical trials including academic and commercial studies that focus on cutting edge novel therapies for scleroderma and its organ-based complications, including pulmonary hypertension and digital ulcers. In addition to undertaking research work in clinical trials, the post-holder will receive outstanding opportunities to train in the management of complex connective tissue diseases and be involved in a vigorous and highly successful translational research programme in scleroderma, managing their own project. The post holder will also be expected to cover General Rheumatology trials.
