Overview:
The Royal Borough of Kingston is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Planner to join our Strategic Planning and Infrastructure team. This role is crucial in supporting the operational needs and delivery outcomes of various planning functions, including Development Management, Planning Enforcement, and Spatial Planning. You will work closely with relevant officers within the service and across the Council and our partners, contributing to a range of professional activities and projects aligned with service priorities and the Council’s Corporate Plan.
Key Responsibilities:
Development Management: Process planning applications, listed building applications, and applications for advertisement consent. Conduct necessary consultations, site visits, and negotiations. Prepare reports and statements for appeals.
Planning Policy: Assist with the preparation of the Local Plan and other planning policy documents. Contribute to survey, analysis, and policy generation. Engage in public participation exercises and monitoring of development.
Planning Enforcement: Monitor breaches of planning control, planning obligations, and agreements. Investigate reported breaches, prepare evidence for appeals, and respond to related inquiries.
Customer Service: Deliver excellent levels of customer service, support senior officers in responding to complaints, and build strong working relationships with internal and external partners.
Team Leadership: Manage and support other planners or project team members, contribute to the annual team planning process, and deputize for the Lead Officer in Development Management or Planning Policy as required.
Ideal Candidate:
Qualifications: Chartered membership or eligibility for chartered or associate membership of the RTPI.
Experience: Proven experience in Development Management or Planning Policy, with a high level of professional knowledge and expertise.
Skills: Strong self-management, performance planning, and the ability to work under pressure. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Attributes: Innovative thinker with the ability to analyze complex issues and make tactical decisions. Commitment to continuous professional development and the ability to inspire and support team members.
