A Dispute Resolution Coordinator is required to support the SEN Officers to undertake dispute resolution, formal mediation work and to respond to appeals to the SEN and Disability Tribunal, including the preparation of bundles.
Key responsibilities:
Manage the Tribunal email inbox ensuring that information is shared with relevant officers within SENART, the legal team and professionals who are involved in appeal hearings as appropriate.
Be the initial point of contact with parents and professionals at the point of a mediation being logged.
Support the Special Educational Needs Officers (SENO) to amend Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) arising from complex annual reviews attended/disagreement resolution work as necessary.
Maintain records related to mediation and appeal activity and provide regular updates on themes to the manager and Lead Officer in SENART to support learning.
Collate evidence, witness statements and other information and reports as necessary to support the appeals process.
Obtain costings as necessary from education providers, professionals, transport to support the appeals process.
Ensure that all responses to the Tribunal are within timescales.
Prepare ‘bundles’ of the documentation in an appeal and ensure that these are provided to the Tribunal and other parties within timescales.
Ensure that witnesses in appeals have the necessary information to be well prepared for the appeal hearing.
Undertake research into case law as required by the SEN officers to support the response to mediation and appeals. Liaise with the independent mediation provider to ensure the mediation sessions are set up, the right officers are in attendance and have the necessary information to enable the mediation to be as effective as possible.
Collate agenda and minute take for the tribunal/mediation tracker meeting.

Qualifications:
At least four GCSE passes at A-C level, including Mathematics and English.
IT qualifications and a familiarity with a wide range of software applications.
BTEC Level 3 award in SEN Casework or proven experience in a similar field desirable.
Experience:
Minute taking skills and experience.
Experience in data collection and analysis, and performance monitoring.
Wide range of clerical, administrative and statistical routines experience.
Experience of working in the area of SEN, or substantial experience in a relevant area.
Experience of working with others from a range of professional backgrounds.
Experience of working with parents/ carers, who may be unhappy with service delivery.
Experience of managing complaints.
Experience of taking minutes with a high level of accuracy.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of SEN Legislation and Statutory procedures and current education legislation.
Knowledge of Equalities Duties legislation and LA procedures re Child Protection.
Awareness of Data Protection/Freedom of Information Act.
Understanding the principles of data protection, confidentiality and information security and working in an environment dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
Good understanding of office procedures and administrative duties within an office environment, including day to day business management, data protection and freedom of information responsibilities.
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to organise work and meet deadlines. An organised approach to work with the ability to work to high levels of accuracy and meeting strict deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and high-level concentration skills specifically in relation to the provision of accurate minutes and records.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively to wide range of internal and external customers.
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Ability to deal sympathetically with members of the public and other agencies whilst respecting confidentiality.
Able to manage large caseloads and work under pressure.
Ability to treat customers with respect and aim to provide the most effective services possible.
Able to remain calm under pressure and deal with conflict and crisis situations.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
