The opportunity
The successful Commercial Manager candidate will be a member of the senior management team and will report into the Station Director.
You will be working on liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of all financial objectives and continuously improve local and fleet performance. Working on direct accountability for the functioning, effectiveness, and productivity of the commercial department.
The role is based on-site at Hartlepool Power Station full time.

What you will be doing as a Commercial Manager…
- Liaising with other internal stakeholders including the Station Management team, the fleet finance and supply chain peer groups to ensure delivery of all financial objectives, share best practice and continually improve local and fleet performance.
- Direct accountability for the functioning, effectiveness, productivity, and output quality of the Commercial department.
- Ensuring contractors, suppliers and supply chain staff support safe and reliable operation of the plant and maintain full compliance within agreed safety and environmental standards and expectations.
- Oversight of contract performance, coordination and management of all supplier and contractor activity in accordance with the targets set for safety, quality, delivery (time) and cost. This includes contracts for delivery during station outages.
- Ensuring that the station complies with the financial requirements of the Nuclear Liabilities Funding Agreement (NLFA), supporting the annual NLFA audit and liaising as necessary with external bodies.
- Ensuring that the suite of Station Financial controls and governance arrangements are aligned to company practices, adhered to and able to be evidenced.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and connect with colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
Who you are...
- As the responsible Commercial Manager of the station’s finances, you need to be a qualified accountant with recognised UK Professional Organisation (e.g., ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA) and/or hold a relevant degree.
- Finance and/or accounting experience with strong numerical and analytical skills is essential, alongside a working knowledge of technical accounting standards.
- Experience of financial systems (SAP) is required.
- Proven ability to build effective working level relationships across functions including at a senior level.
- Ability to hold senior stakeholders and contract partner organisations to account on their performance and financial performance.
- Excellent leadership skills and a strong influencer with exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven track record of delivering results.
- The ability to work in a highly regulated environment.
- Commercial awareness and knowledge of the energy sector.
- Given the broad nature of the role, it is acknowledged that candidates may not have the supply chain experience required for the role, however these applicants will be welcomed, and the successful candidates will show willingness and energy in bridging the gap to those areas less familiar to them.
