Project Specialist Biomedical Scientists – Pathology LIMS Replacement (Fixed Term to Apr 2025)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pathology & Transfusion Services at the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join us on a fixed term contract.

Are you an experienced Biomedical Scientist registered with the HCPC, with good IT skills looking for a fantastic temporary opportunity to support the harmonisation, testing and go live of the S4PP joint LIMS?

We have created this new Project Specialist BMS post as part of our LIMS Business Case with a significant role in a complex clinical IT project. We have a lot do before the phased go live from late 2024 to April 2025 and your roles will be crucial to our success.

You must have a keen eye for detail throughout to support our LIMS replacement project which will also include interfaces to existing systems such as ICE Order Comms, PathManager Business Reporting, MSOFT Bloodhound & Sample 360 and System C Medway.

You will support the harmonisation, testing and go live of the S4PP joint LIMS. Your skills and hard work will ensure a high quality system that is fit for purpose, safe and effective by undertaking relevant work for full end to end and user acceptance testing. This will include the testing and go live of relevant software updates including interfaces to analysers and equipment such as Point of Care devices.

As part of the South 4 Pathology Partnership (S4PP) we have recently awarded a 10 year contract for a shared Pathology Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Winpath Enterprise with our IT partner Clinisys.

Our STAR values – Service, Teamwork, Ambition and Respect – are a golden thread running through everything we do. These values serve as a guiding principle, driving us towards our vision of delivering great joined up services to our local community. Whether at home, in the community, or within the hospital, our goal is to empower individuals to lead independent and healthier lives.
1. We are seeking highly motivated Biomedical Scientists and we will support you in finding your feet early on and integrating with the Trust and network project team. You will be part of a team of LIMS project BMSs and will report to the Pathology & Transfusion IT Systems Manager during your fixed term contract with us. Ideally we are looking to recruit Biomedical Scientists with a cross section of laboratory backgrounds covering Cellular Pathology, Blood Sciences and Microbiology.

3. Under the direction of the Pathology & Transfusion IT System Manager support the set up and testing of new analyser and equipment interfaces including Point of Care Devices (POC).
4. Under the direction of the Pathology & Transfusion IT System Manager undertake full end to end user acceptance testing using agreed test scripts for the new Pathology LIMS and updated ICE Order Comms systems
5. To communicate effectively the outcomes of verification work identifying areas of concern and raising non-conformances as required
6. Support the Pathology & Transfusion IT System Manager, Pathology Management Team and Quality Manager with evidence to maintain compliance with applicable Pathology IT System quality standards such as ISO15189
7. Support the Pathology & Transfusion IT System Manager and Pathology Service leads in revising existing laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and writing any new specialist IT related SOPs and other guidance documents
8. Support the Pathology & Transfusion IT System Manager in validating new clinical and business information reports in appropriate formats for Trust specialist systems such as data warehouse and for service users such as the Pathology senior team
9. Support the Pathology & Transfusion IT System Manager in drafting new local Business Continuity plans for the LIMS
