Located between Nottingham and Derby, Erewash Borough comprises both rural areas and the busy towns of Long Eaton and Ilkeston. We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate or established planning professional to join our Planning Policy & Regeneration Team. This is an exciting time to work in strategic planning at Erewash as we progress our local plan through the examination process. You will play a part in shaping the borough’s future housing growth, town centres, employment and the environment.

About the role

The career graded nature of this role makes it suitable for either a recent graduate or someone ready to take the next step in their planning career. The council will cover the cost of a part time RTPI accredited Masters degree to enable progress from assistant to officer level*. Direct entry at officer level (Grade F) is also available to suitably qualified candidates.

You will need to bring motivation and dedication to the role which involves all aspects of planning policy work, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality planning service. Duties involve progressing the Local Plan to adoption and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders in the preparation of policy documents.

You must be able to demonstrate up-to-date planning policy knowledge, be educated to degree level (a planning related qualification is needed for entry at Grade F) and be eligible for membership of the RTPI.

This post is full time and is based at Long Eaton Town Hall. The Council operates a hybrid working arrangement, and it is expected employees will spend a minimum of two days per week in the workplace following completion of their probation period. There may be a requirement to occasionally work outside of normal office hours in consultations or to attend committee meetings.

The Benefits of Working for Us:

In addition to a competitive salary, you will also have access to:
• A generous annual leave package – 29 days annual leave (rising to 33 days after 5 years’ continuous service) plus 8 bank holidays a year.
• Free workplace car parking within the Borough.
• Opportunities for training, learning and continuous professional development.
• Family friendly flexible and Hybrid/Home working policies available.
• Option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
• Subsidised leisure membership with the Fit for Work scheme.
• Casual car user allowance.
*Terms and conditions apply to the funded qualification.

For an informal discussion about this role please email Adam Reddish, Principal Planning Policy Officer (adam.reddish@erewash.gov.uk) who will arrange this with you.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 4 August 2024. Interviews will be held in-person at Long Eaton Town Hall.
