Research Associate
Cardiff School of Engineering

Applicants are invited to apply for the position of Research Associate within the Cardiff School of Engineering.

The main duty of this role is to conduct research within the Advanced High Voltage Engineering Research Centre in the field of compact substation design. The work will examine the design and planning for a full demonstrator compact substation bay, including computation models, geometry and new equipment selection.

The post holder will:

1. Review and explore new innovative developments in compact substation equipment.
2. Use surge arresters to explore optimised overvoltage protection
3. Review and investigate relevant aspects of safety and maintenance implications
4. Finalise a design for consideration, discussion and feedback from partners
5. Prepare installation requirements with collaborators

This post is full time (35 hours per week), available from 01/9/2024 and is fixed term for 12 months or until 31/03/2026 which ever is the soonest.

Salary: Grade 6 Salary Range £39,347 - £44,263 per annum. We do not anticipate appointing this position above point Starting Point of Grade 6.32 salary £39,347.
