This is an exciting new role in the surgery team based at the Royal London Hospital. This is a specialist pharmacy technician role which would entail working primarily with the anaesthetic services across The Royal London. We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking pharmacy technician who is an independent thinker and has a proactive approach towards their role. This new role would be part of the hospital's agenda in working towards extending the role of pharmacy technicians within clinical services.
The postholder would hold a leadership role for medicines optimisation and management, pre-operative services, and clinical pharmacy services across the wider Surgery Division, including the surgical wards and the Adult Critical Care Unit, and would have a team of rotational Medicines Management Pharmacy Technicians to support them with this. This role would be expected to be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team in the primary areas that they work in and would support in leading the team in the delivery of a high quality clinical, professional, and operational pharmacy service to all areas.
The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as a Lead Pharmacy Technician in Surgery and Anaesthesia to deliver a patient, safety centred, quality level of care, based primarily at the Royal London Hospital. They will also support with providing a specialist pharmacy service input to theatres, recovery, surgical wards and wider Surgery Division as and when the service needs.
The postholder will need to work on their own initiative and innovatively develop the role. They will work within the peri-operative team alongside working as part of the wider surgical pharmacy team, ensuring that a high standard of services are provided in accordance with relevant professional, ethical, legal and locally agreed policies, procedures, guidelines and
standards.
The postholder will also be expected to promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective use of medicines within peri-operative medicine in order to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and improve medicines safety. The post holder will be supporting the senior pharmacists in the surgical pharmacy team in leading a team in the delivery of high quality clinical, professional, operational and technical pharmacy service to this speciality.
