Pay Rate: £11.44 per hour PAYE

Hours per week: 36 Monday – Friday, 8.30am to 5pm

Role Length: This opening assignment is for 1-2 months

Basic DBS disclosure required for this role

The purpose of the role is to carry out annual allocation processes in accordance with the LA’s co-ordinated admission arrangements and admissions legislation, including validation of applicants’ information and follow-up work to establish take up of school places. To discuss the ranking of allocations with schools and advise schools on the implementation of the admission policy.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure that the LA’s responsibilities regarding admissions are carried out in accordance with admissions law.
The post holder is expected to work on their own initiative, using judgement, analytical skills and routinely make decisions on admission issues in accordance with admissions law and policies. More complex issues should be referred to the appropriate Team Leader, Lead Officers or Strategic Lead.
Communicate effectively with the public, colleagues and other professionals, giving a clear understanding of admission policies. If the ability to do so, communicate with parents in community languages where parents/carers require such support in order to understand admission processes.
Have effective use of relevant software including the Capita ONE system and Microsoft Office in order to implement school allocations including the online application process and maintain and update data for analysis and reporting purposes.
Deal effectively and sensitively with parents/carers through a range of communications. Defuse any difficult situations by explaining decisions that may be unacceptable to some applicants, referring particularly contentious issues to a senior officer where necessary.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external services to support the safeguarding of children (eg Access Team, Education Safeguarding Team, SEN Team, Exclusions or Social Care etc).
Maintain and develop knowledge of legislation and other educational factors relating to admissions and continuously review own procedures and practices in order to contribute towards the efficiency of the team.
Organise personal workload in order to carry out duties within published timescales, exercising initiative to deal effectively with competing priorities.
Although the post holder has no line management responsibilities, he/she will be required to assist in training new team members through work shadowing or mentoring
Responsible for processing the annual applications for schools, ie inputting, validating, matching and amending data, re-allocation from waiting lists, using admissions software to ensure oversubscription criteria are correctly administered. Use Council l Tax records and liaison with schools where necessary to minimise cases of fraudulent applications.

Qualifications:

5 GCSE’s in English and Maths.



Skills & Experience:

A minimum of two years administration experience where there has been a requirement to organise and prioritise workload effectively, carry out multiple activities to tight deadlines with accuracy.
A minimum of two years’ experience of collaborative working relationships with internal and
external services and ability to use effective negotiation and advocacy skills to influence outcomes.
A minimum of two years’ experience in providing advice in sometimes sensitive situations, to a variety of stakeholders, both over the telephone and in person with the ability to defuse difficult situations where necessary.
A minimum of two years’ experience of communicating effectively in writing and demonstrating good oral skills in advocacy, negotiation and when giving advice.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
