We are looking for a psychology graduate Assistant Psychologist to work in Newham Secondary Care Psychological Services. We are a Step 4, out-patient psychological therapy service which aims to meet the psychological needs of users of mental health services who have complex and severe mental health problems. Psychologists in the service are working jointly with other staff from health and social services settings to deliver a comprehensive, co-ordinated and culturally competent psychological service. The service aims to lead in creating a psychologically literate workforce across services in the London Borough of Newham and to bring a psychological perspective to the work of individuals, teams and systems. It focuses both on evidence-based clinical excellence and developing practice-based evidence relevant to meeting the needs of a very diverse population.

The post holder will assist with referral and screening tasks, keeping a database of referrals and their outcomes as well as provide monthly referrals' audits. They will assist the Referral and Assessment coordinator with logging referrals and screening for appropriateness of referrals in twice weekly screening meetings. This role will also involve liaising with referrers and clinicians to outcome referrals, and helping document decisions on Rio, the Trust electronic health record system. The post holder will also hold service audit responsibilities and will contribute to service evaluation under the supervision of qualified psychologists. Additionally, the post holder will also help analyse our Satisfaction survey and produce reports and posters to illustrate the results.

There will be a CPD opportunity approximately one day a week (two sessions) to work directly with Psychologists and Psychotherapists. This includes offering individual evidence based interventions to clients presenting with severe and complex psychological difficulties, such as anxiety management, graded exposure as an adjunct to a client’s main therapy sessions, or as a stabilisation intervention whilst they wait for long-term therapy. Additionally, the post holder will also have the opportunity to co-facilitate therapeutic groups. There are different options for this throughout the year.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
