As an Early Years teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality and engaging lessons that cover all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. You will also be expected to assess and monitor pupil progress, provide feedback and report to parents and carers. You will work closely with other teachers and support staff to ensure a smooth transition from nursery to reception and from EYFS to Key Stage 1.
Your role as an Early Years Teacher

  • Motivating and stimulating children's learning abilities, often through experiences
  • Providing pastoral care and support to children within a secure learning environment
  • Aiding the development of a child's personal, social, language and physical coordination abilities
  • Developing and producing visual aids and teaching resources
  • Encouraging mathematical and creative development through stories, songs, games, drawing and imaginative play
  • Helping children develop curiosity and knowledge
  • Working with others, including teaching assistants and nursery nurses as well as volunteer helpers, to plan and coordinate work both indoors and outdoors
  • Sharing knowledge gained with other practitioners and building and maintaining relationships with parents
  • Observing, assessing and recording each child's progress
  • Ensuring the health and safety of children and staff is maintained during all activities, both inside and outside the setting
  • Attending staff meetings and staff training days
  • Keeping up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice


What you need to be considered for this role

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience of teaching in EYFS or KS1
  • A thorough knowledge of the EYFS curriculum and the expectations for reception
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
  • A creative and innovative approach to teaching and learning
  • A commitment to continuous professional development
  • A positive attitude and a sense of humour
