-42 hours per week

-£26,520.40 per annum

The Role   



Detention Custody Officer - Immigration Services- Larne House Residential Short-Term Holding Facility.



Working as a DCO within our team will provide you with the opportunity to maintain high standards of security and safety whilst promoting the welfare and decency of residents. This is a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. As you gain experience within this challenging role, we'll support you throughout your time to grow and develop.   



Your new role as a Residential Short-Term holding Facility DCO will be to ensure welfare and safety within our secure facility. There will be occasions in supporting our Belfast colleagues in escorting and safely transporting immigration residents across Northern Ireland and by aircraft and ferry to the Mainland UK.  



If you're the right one for us, your strong communication & interpersonal skills, non-judgemental approach, excellent problem-solving skills and ability to keep calm under pressure will be the foundations to develop your Care & Custody career.



You'll spend your time in our modern, secure facility based inside of a Police station. The facility is designed to hold residents up to 5 or 7 days depending on the resident's casework. Your primary role is to ensure safety, security and welfare of the residents, the facility and your colleagues. There will be occasions where you will be required in both driving a small mini bus sized vehicle and escorting inside that vehicle at different times during your shift while maintaining high standards of security and safety, and promoting the welfare and decency of residents in your care.



Your working time will require you to cover both day shifts and night shifts. This includes Bank holidays, weekends, we cover 365 days a year.



No specific role experience or qualifications are required to be a DCO as full training and supported development are given. Experience of dealing sensitively with a wide variety of people who have been agitated, confused or angry would be an advantage.



You'll begin your Care & Custody career completing a 6-week initial training course. Please note that this course may be in a separate location to the role. This will develop the skills needed to professionally deliver this rewarding, sometimes challenging role with integrity and respect.



Qualifications



Essential Criteria



UK citizen, Citizen of the Commonwealth with your own indefinite leave to remain (not through marriage) or EEA citizen.

Valid and in-date passport, with no restrictions on your stay in the UK (A valid visa in an expired passport cannot be used to prove right to work in the UK, you must provide a biometric residence permit alongside an in-date passport.

Continuously resided in the UK for the previous 3 years with no more than 3 months spent overseas at any one time.

Specific driving compliance is attached to this role.

Full UK Northern Ireland manual car licence with at least 12 months post qualifying experience.

Fewer than 7 points on your UK Driving Licence.

Have not been subject to a driving ban within the last 12 months (from date of ban ending)

Not currently bankrupt

The position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act; Successful candidates will be required to undergo Enhanced DBS and vetting to a level of Counter Terrorist Checked (CTC).

Additional Information



The training courses will last 6 weeks and will commence in October and November 2024. Attendance is compulsory during the 4 weeks.
