Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatric Pain
Band 6 Development Post. 18 Month, 30 hours Fixed Term.

JOB:
This is a 0.8 wte (30 hour) band 6 fixed term contract development post for Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Paediatric Pain Service.
The job purpose is to assist with developing and evaluating a seamless effective Paediatric Pain Service Trust Wide, to promote excellence in patient care, and facilitate multi-professional teamwork. The post holder will provide advice and direct clinical practice in acute post-operative and medical pain management, act as a resource for pain management issues supported by the other Paediatric Pain Service members.
You will work autonomously once completed a competency-based development portfolio and act to maintain the service in the absence of the lead CNS for the Service. There will be a strong emphasis on regular patient contact for the purpose of assessment, monitoring, and auditing to ensure safety and efficacy of pain management techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE:
Applicants are required to be RSCN or RN-Part 15 (Child Branch), and ideally to have a post-registration qualification in a related paediatric pain management or evidence of interest within this field of practice. You will have excellent communication skills, proven clinical skills together with organisational, teaching and management experience.

• To work with multi-disciplinary team to provide optimum pain relief and symptom management for all in patients with acute pain. To ensure a safe, effective, seamless continuity of care and delivery of service maintained
• Assist in the management of patient caseload, providing assessment, diagnosis, planning and evaluation of clinical practice in accordance with local Trust policies and procedure. To assist clinical areas to achieve Trust agreed standards of pain control.
• Accept patient referrals from multi -disciplinary teams across the trust. To be able to acknowledge own limitations in knowledge and know when to request support or refer to a senior nursing/medical staff of the pain management team, when your scope of practice is exceeded.
• Act as a role model, and a resource to provide advice and clinical support on all aspects of paediatric pain and related symptoms control to all staff in managing patients with pain management needs, using current research to underpin clinical practice.
• Provide support, information, education and counselling as appropriate to patients, carers and staff.
• To be able to work in a stressful environment and able to communicate with staff, patients and carers about difficult matters and or difficult situations.
• To provide a highly specialist knowledge to assess, plan and deliver patient centred care and be able to discuss treatment options in depth with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise
