Welcome to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for experienced Band 5 staff interested in undertaking a 12 month developmental post and leading to a substantive band 6, to join our Hertford House Rehabilitation Team. The successful candidates will have a strong commitment to working as part of a team, with experience of previous roles in acute care, forensic or community work being an asset. The Development post will be supported by the MDT and existing OT staff in meeting competencies required to become an independent practitioner as a Band 6 in our Steps to Recovery Service. You will receive supervision and 'hands on mentoring' from the Lead OT and Team Manager, the wider OT staff group and MDT to achieve these targets. We anticipate that you will take a leadership role as a key worker with a small group of service users where there is a clear OT need identified, and contribute to the OT needs and assessment of service users on the team caseload.
Steps to Recovery services adopt a shared team approach, working together to support and engage service users with psychosis, many with a history of multiple admissions and with complex needs, low levels of engagement and often behaviours that challenge teams.
As a team member you will be delivering strategies to support and enable individuals to participate in recovery-based activities, engage in treatments, and develop skills to support returning successfully to their own homes or support with sourcing appropriate accommodations to meet their needs in the community.
OT staff assess on admission to the service to determine any OT need to identify OT goals and to outline treatment plans. OT staff, work with partner organisations to develop more community-based resources and will do 1:1 work to enable service users to engage and participate in activities as part of their engagement plan. Trust OT staff have access to a variety of outcome measures and assessment tools including MOHO and the Trust is now in the process of rolling out sensory work, MDT assessment and engagement suite, and Dialog + as an assessment and care planning tool. Staff are welcomed to the S2R clinical and clinical governance forums and to OT meetings and training events within the wider Integrated Community Care and Recovery Services (ICCR).
