We have a passion for Lycoming and Continental piston engines here at Gama Aviation Engineering. Our team of talented engineers have an almost unrivalled knowledge of Lycoming, and Continental piston engines, breathing new life into the heart of light aircraft or helicopters.
Based out of our extensively equipped workshop in Oxford (UK) we have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice to join our team involved in all aspects of piston engine overhaul/repair of Lycoming and Continental engines from across Europe and the world.
Starting in September 2024, you will learn and develop engineering skills and knowledge through onsite work placements, whilst also studying for nationally recognized qualifications. You will learn a range of skills including assembly of products, machining, and maintenance of equipment. You will study for 4 years for a Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Manufacturing and Engineering. You will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic, exciting and progressive team at our Oxford base facility.

You be developing your interest in aviation and engineering
You will gain knowledge in Health and Safety in an engineering environment
You will learn project skills engineering manufacturing skills – hand fitting, milling and turning
You will gain an understanding of engineering mathematics and engineering principles
You will learn about mechanical maintenance and assembly along with fluid maintenance and assembly
You will be supporting the engineers in order to gain an understanding of the industry as a whole
You will learn about electrical systems including PLC
You will assist in general duties for the day to day operation of the workshop environment
Proactively engage in improvements of our business, including suggesting changes to how we work, to better help your team efficiently provide quality service to our customers

/ Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:
Essential
GCSE (or equivalent) grade 5 or above in Maths, English and Science
Proactive learner, self-motivated, career-focused, team player
Keen interest in aviation & engineering
Advantageous
GCSE in Physics, GCSE in Design Technology
Ability to commute and travel to work independently due to different location
An active hobby in mechanics/engineering. This could be working at home repairing/rebuilding cars/bikes or anything mechanical
Basic hand skills - From using basic hand tools to carry out any repair/modification work on mechanical products to fabrication of parts and systems relating to mechanical products
Any intertest in general fabrication and machining. Using tool making machinery, such as lathes and mills to fabricate or modify parts
Any exposure to welding
Understanding principles of the internal combustion engine
Undertaken any car or vehicle restoration projects
