This role has a starting salary of £32,512 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week. Your salary will increase as you progress through the professional development programme (PDP).

We're on the lookout for individuals interested in starting or developing a career as a Graduate Transport Planner, to support the Transport Policy Team. This is an opportunity to make a positive impact in overseeing and developing sustainable transport policies, projects and programmes to enable more people to move around Surrey in healthier, cleaner, greener ways. You will help to deliver our ambitious Surrey Transport Plan on our journey towards net zero, as part of the Council's Climate Change Strategy. The team is based in Woking. We work flexibly, with 2 days in the office and other days either working at home or in alternative locations. Travelling with sustainability in mind, you will also be required to undertake site visits throughout the County. Rewards and Benefits

About the Team The Transport Policy Team are championing and delivering cleaner, greener transport modes, through policies and programmes centred around place making, active travel, public transport, and behaviour change. Working with National, Regional and Local partners, and engaging local communities to gain support to deliver sustainable infrastructure to meet our net zero targets. About the Role Strong Technical Knowledge: As PDP Transport Planner you'll be the driving force in providing transport planning policy advice to councillors and residents alongside providing excellent technical evidence and project management for scheme business cases. Working with Partners and communities: Your skills in communication and building relationships will develop strong networks at a local level and, working collaboratively with Surrey's 11 local councils, internal and external partners to bring the wider community along on, to gain stakeholder support to deliver sustainable infrastructure and behaviour change. Green agenda: Your decisions will be aligned with our adopted Surrey Transport Plan in line with our strategic priorities, benefiting stakeholders and Surrey residents, ensuring no one is left behind. Shortlisting To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:
  • Excellent communication skills and transport planning knowledge as well as the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at various levels
  • Enthusiasm for wanting to address transport related issues and problems
  • You have started developing strong project management skills and are an effective team player
  • Relevant university degree background and may have already gained experience of working in the environment or transport sector
  • Ablility to demonstrate experience of working to tight deadlines and meeting targets
