​Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation TrustDermatology department is seeking a permanent part time (4.5PA) General Practitioner with Extended Role in Dermatology to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team.

This is a fixed term 1 year contract, initially covering dermatology entry level ST3 grade junior doctor. This is with a view to renewal of the contract subject to on-going review and commitment to completion of the Portfolio Pathway in Dermatology (previously referred to as CESR).



This is in response to the needs of the department in recent years and the increasing demand on our services. The Department of Dermatology at Homerton Healthcare provides a full range of general and specialist dermatology clinics, and the Trust wishes to further expand on the number of clinics available. The successful candidate will support the current delivery of the Dermatology service as well as the ongoing development of our department. The applicant must therefore have the appropriate procedural, clinical and leadership skills, as well as drive and ambition to join our growing team.



The post is offered on the basis of 10 programmed activities. There is no general medical on-call commitment associated, however the candidate will be required to contribute to weekday 9am-5pm on-call cover for the Dermatology service with support from the consultant body. This involves responding to inpatient referrals, advice and queries from ambulatory care and the emergency department.

The postholder will be working alongside consultants within dermatology cancer clinics in a supportive and dynamic environment.

The successful applicant will join our growing team of consultants and specialist nurses and will be encouraged to develop areas of interest or research within the department.

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a medium sized local hospital providing acute and community health services for Hackney, The City and surrounding communities and also provides a range of specialist services for a much wider population.

We provide general hospital and community services to Hackney and the City of London, and specialist care in obstetrics, neonatology, fetal medicine, fertility, bariatric surgery and neuro rehabilitation across east London and beyond.



As a foundation trust, Homerton has greater freedom from the Department of Health to enable it to be more responsive to local healthcare needs and have greater accountability to the patients and public it serves.



The principal purpose of the Trust remains to provide goods and services for the purposes of the health service in England, and has a duty to do this effectively, efficiently and economically.

The Trust comprises Homerton Hospital in Hackney and the Mary Seacole Nursing Home, situated in Shoreditch as well as Hackney and the City Community Health Services.

As one of London’s designated peri-natal centres, Homerton provides a highly specialised range of obstetric and neonatal services. A major capital expansion programme is in hand to accommodate 6000 births per annum and provide 40 neonatal intensive care cots.



· To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive Dermatology service, with supervision from Consultant Dermatologists, including inpatient care and referrals, outpatient clinics, minor operation lists, telephone and electronic advice and guidance to local GPs.

· To undertake outpatient clinics for adult dermatology patients, with support and supervision from the consultant body. Following development of clinical knowledge and skills, paediatric clinics can be incorporated into the job plan.

· Participate in providing skin cancer services by providing skin cancer outpatient clinics and attending MDT meetings. Clinical commitments are reduced accordingly.

· To contribute to on-call cover 9am-5pm for the Dermatology service with support from the consultant body. Timely response to inpatient referrals, advice and queries from ambulatory care and the emergency department.

· Active participation in clinical governance, academic and development meetings within the department.

· To participate fully in the organisation and provision of pre-clinical and clinical undergraduate teaching of medical students from Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry (QMUL). To contribute to the teaching of foundation and core trainees.

· To share responsibility with colleagues for providing evidence-based standards of care for all inpatients and outpatients.

· To contribute to clinical audit and departmental research projects.

· To maintain his/her professional development to the level set by the Royal College of Physicians and to maintain a personal development portfolio.

· To work in accordance with trust policies and procedures including the Code of Behaviour.

· To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of Homerton’s business plans.

· To participate fully in the management and service development of the Dermatology Department and liaise closely with the Clinical Lead, Service Manager and Divisional Operations Director.
