Pay Rate: Up to £16.08 per hour PAYE depending on experience

Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours

Role Length: This opening assignment is for 12 months

City: Warrington

Hybrid working

Candidates must be prepared to go through police vetting

The purpose of then role is to assess and scan documents, imagery, audio material and other material. Prepare documents and material for transfer to The National Archives.

Key Responsibilities:

Produce and maintain Excel spreadsheets and management reports.
To scan material and edit as necessary using Adobe Pro software and manage the product using emails, Excel spreadsheets and various databases.
Be responsible for and independently determine material to be scanned or prepared for processing for archiving.
When assessing material record appropriate legally based rationale for decisions.
To treat the material in accordance with National Archiving standards and preserve the integrity of it.
To accurately apply legislation and protocol and apply best practice.
Ensure that all material, including sensitive data and exhibits, are managed, and handled appropriately and in accordance with Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), Public Records Act, and archiving protocols.
Work at pace to meet changing deadlines and risks associated with the material.
Make independent assessments using professional judgement as to the type and nature of the preparatory work material requires prior to processing, applying legislation, policy, and conventions. This should be in line with relevant legislation and guidelines including Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Records Act 1958, and Information Management Authorised Professional Practice guidelines (IMAPP).
Perform assessments on material in preparation for sensitivity reviews.
Treat all material professionally and sensitively, understanding the operational impacts and consequences of mishandling material.
Liaise with legacy and archive team staff to obtain further contextual information to improve the effectiveness of the role and support decision making.
Work with the wider legacy and archiving partners to identify best practice and opportunities for continuous improvement of the processes and role.
Engage with the legacy and archive managers to escalate issues and receive feedback from quality assurance checks.

Qualifications:

A good general standard of education (e.g. GCSE/Level 2 qualifications or their equivalent)).



Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Previous experience demonstrating research and/or analytical skills (could be part of a degree course).
Extensive experience of computer systems and Standard software packages relevant to the Archive Team with a good working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases.
Experience in handling sensitive and confidential information.
Experience in record management and compliance in line with data protection and legal obligations.
Significant knowledge of information management systems.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to contextualise information in order to make the correct decision.
Ability to make independent professional judgements, supported by rationale, to ensure legal compliance.
Able to identify specific operational benefits, derived from preparing and processing material.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Adobe Pro).
