Quantity Surveyor - Highways

Location: Kent

Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum

The Client is a leading provider of highway services in the UK, specialising in the construction, maintenance, and management of road networks. Our work encompasses a wide range of activities, including term maintenance, capital works, reactive maintenance, and junction improvements, aimed at enhancing the overall quality and functionality of the road networks we manage.

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Highways Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of our highway projects, ensuring that they are completed within budget and to the highest standards. This role involves working on a variety of projects, including term maintenance, capital works, reactive maintenance, and junction improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Management: Prepare, monitor, and control project budgets, ensuring that all financial objectives are met.
  • Estimating and Tendering: Develop detailed cost estimates for new projects and participate in the tendering process.
  • Contract Administration: Manage contracts, including variations, claims, and final accounts, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
  • Financial Reporting: Produce regular financial reports and forecasts, providing accurate and timely information to project managers and senior management.
  • Site Visits: Conduct site visits to monitor progress, assess costs, and ensure that work is being carried out to specification.
  • Supplier and Subcontractor Management: Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating prices and ensuring timely delivery of services and materials.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage financial risks associated with projects, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Client Liaison: Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their financial and contractual requirements are met.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in quantity surveying, preferably within the highways or civil engineering sector.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Office, quantity surveying software).
    • Knowledge of construction contracts and procurement processes.
  • Certifications: Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS) is desirable.
