We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Communications/Engagement Specialist to join our Active Travel Team to support our communications and engagement work across our project portfolio.

This role would ideally be based in our Edinburgh, Glasgow or Manchester offices (other offices could be considered for the right candidate), and can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office/on site and the option of adjusted start and finish times.

Our Active Travel Team work on a wide range of cycling and walking infrastructure design projects for our clients, from inception, strategic planning and feasibility to developing designs and overseeing construction of new active travel routes in both urban and rural environments.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading communication strategies and engagement exercises with communities, stakeholder groups and local authorities to inform project development and the delivery of a range of activities, through the collaborative design process by ensuring all voices are heard, and communities feel part of the process.

What does the role involve?

Preparing reports, documents and publication material, ensuring accuracy and clarity of information.
Representing Sweco at public consultation and engagement events, effectively communicating project objectives and addressing any concerns or questions.
Managing relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, landowners, councillors, and members of the general public.
Presenting information in a variety of formats to engage and inform diverse audiences.
Ensuring consistency of design approach and deliverables outputs within the project portfolio.
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

Experience of working on public and stakeholder consultation projects.
The ability to write and/or edit engaging content for publications, press releases and websites.
The ability to engage with key stakeholders to gain commitment, and to influence the acceptance of innovative ideas and concepts, in respect of development plans.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload to ensure that timescales are met.
Experience in organising and leading stakeholder engagement events/workshops, and effectively collating and presenting feedback.
Strong problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions.
The ability to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and other external stakeholders.
A good understanding of active travel issues facing communities.
Excellent consultancy, communication and relationship management skills with the ability to adapt your style to suit a wide range of stakeholders.
A clean driving licence and be willing to travel within the UK when required.
