Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the 5-19 Healthy Child Programme .

We are looking to recruit flexible, dynamic, and motivated individuals for an exciting opportunity as School Health Assistants (SHA) working term time only, to work in the Healthy Child Programme 5-19 (HCP) teams in West Sussex, offering support to children, young people and their families.

There are several posts available across West Sussex based in Crawley and Arundel .









The SHA roles promote the health of children by undertaking hearing and vision screening for pupils in Reception year, and National Child Measurement Programme(NCMP) measurements for pupils in both Reception and Year 6 classes.

You will need to have Math's and English GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.

Excellent IT skills are essential, and a working knowledge of Excel and outlook are vital for this role. In-house training will be provided on our electronic patient record system.

You will need to be a good communicator, well-organised, and able to travel between school and clinic locations across West Sussex.
Previous experience working with children/young people is desirable, but not essential and full training will be provided.

Main Tasks
1. To build and maintain effective communication channels with the school nursing team members, children, parents, school staff and partner agencies
2. To liaise with schools and prepare and plan for undertaking the screening and height and weight measurements
3. To organise and undertake routine measuring of height and weight, and screening of vision and hearing for children at school entry and at year 6 (NCMP programme)
4. To undertake vision and hearing tests for children as delegated by the school nurse
5. To have face to face and telephone contact with parents regarding their child’s health needs
6. To work with the team to participate in health promotion activity, under supervision as required
7. To act as a positive ambassador for the school health service
8. To work without direct supervision and organise own programme of work
