on-call commitment 1 in 12 for General, Urology and Vascular surgery Key Duties include: 1. Vascular Surgery ward rounds and ongoing inpatient care 2. Attending elective theatre lists 3. Attending outpatient clinics, including the daily One-Stop Clinics. 4. Being trained and supported in the development of operative skills 5. Participation in Clinical Governance, including effective clinical audit, continuing medical education and mandatory training. 6. Contributing to departmental audit and research with consultant supervision. Opportunities are available to undertake personal research and enhance the CV 7. Participation in teaching programmes for medical staff, medical students (University of Leicester and University of Oxford) and other hospital employees, as required. The hospital has an excellent Post-Graduate Medical Centre that has been extensively refurbished with library, audio-visual aids, seminar and committee rooms, as well as a comprehensive range of recreational facilities, swimming pools, squash and tennis courts etc. This job description reflects the present requirements of the post and it does not form part of the contract of employment. If the duties of the post change and develop the job description will be reviewed and will be subject to amendment, in consultation with the post holder. Appropriate notice of such changes will be given. The department has the right to close the job advert early if there are an excessive number of applications. The Department of Vascular Surgery has six Consultant Surgeons, supported by 6 Specialist Registrar grades, 4 SHO-level grades and 4 FY1s. The Department of General Surgery has 10 consultants, 13 Registrars, 6 SHO-level grades and 9 FY1s. The consultant ward rounds give opportunity for feedback & teaching and the post easily allows completion of required portfolio assessments. Fortnightly vascular-specific teaching is consultant-led with trainee involvement, with opportunities for junior doctors to present. There are additional weekly general surgical and urology teaching sessions. Monthly Mortality and Morbidity meetings are an excellent opportunity for presentations, clinical notes review and are a good learning environment. Trainees are actively encouraged to further their CVs by engaging in research projects and the department has a strong recent track record of CSTs being successful in presenting at conferences, such as ASGBI and ASIT. Annual leave entitlement and study leave requests will be granted within the framework of the departments annual leave and study leave policies. Study leave is encouraged particularly in areas of interest to the post-holder.
