Longleat is offering the opportunity for one of our existing team to step into the role of Railway Team Member.
The Longleat railway is the 2nd most intensely operated 15inch Gauge Passenger Railway in Europe, and we’ve got an exciting opportunity for two customer service-focused Railway Team Members to join us on a permanent contract. Our railway takes guests on a 2km route through our grounds and past half half-mile lake, and over the Christmas period is transformed into the Santa train, taking our excited guests to see Santa himself in the Woodland Grotto.
Our Railway Team Members are focused on providing outstanding customer service to all our guests, which will see you taking on everything from driving our diesel locomotive to undertaking signalman and guard duties.
Reporting to the Assistant Attractions Manager, as a Railway team member you’ll keep the safety of the train and its passengers at the forefront of your attention at all times, and ensure we are constantly delivering fantastic customer service to our guests. You’ll perform all daily pre-opening safety inspections on the railway and highlight to the supervisor or team leader any equipment that needs repair, replacement or adjusting.
Key duties will include:
• Ensure that all Railway rules and safety regulations are adhered to at all times.
• To provide a Guest focused service at all times ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards of the brand.
• Perform all daily pre-opening safety inspections on the Railway.
• Driving of Diesel Locomotive.
• When driving you are solely responsible for the safety of the train and passengers.
• Signalman & Guard Duties.
• Take part in Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly inspections and maintenance for the Railway.
About you
• You must be an existing Longleat employee to apply for this role.
• Full UK driving licence
• You must be a minimum age of 21 to fulfil all roles of Railway Team Member
• Must be able to react quickly and appropriately under pressure in emergency situations and maintain professionalism
• Effective communication skills
• Passionate about delivering excellent customer service
• Although not essential, experience working with diesel and/or steam locomotive engines would be highly advantageous.
• Due to the safety-critical nature of the role, if successful you will be required to complete and successfully pass a medical.

Your contract
You will be on a permanent contract, working a minimum of 208 hours across a 13 week period, 5 days out of 7, including weekends, evenings and bank holidays as required. The earliest start time is 8 am and the latest finish time is 8 pm, varying in accordance with opening times. Positions available for immediate start pending successful medical sign-off.
