Band 6 Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Research Nurse Post
We have a new opportunity for a Band 6 Research Nurse to join the Paediatric and Adolescent research team at University College London Hospital (UCLH). The Research Nurse is an autonomous specialist working role within the multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will be part of an exciting new Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Alliance. The Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Alliance is a newly formed group established to enable access to leading research and clinical trials to all patients in North Central London (NCL).
The post holder will be working on the co-ordination, retention and management of the CRN portfolio studies working across hospital sites of NCL. The post holder will be working with and supported by a new band 7 position.
Responsibilities will include education of patients and colleagues, coordination of care of patients on the trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, collection of trial data, and monitoring of the expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities.
The post holder will be expected to develop specialised skills and knowledge in relation to the conduct of clinical trials, the therapies and Sickle Cell Disease.
Sickle Cell Disorder (SCD) is the most common inherited single gene disorder in the UK and affects primarily people of African Ancestry. UCLH, Whittington Health and North Middlesex University Hospital services care for around 400 children and young people living with the condition. Children and Young People with SCD face a multitude of acute and chronic complications occurring from early childhood.
The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients and families to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials and research by providing advice and information and acting as their advocated.
