To work as an integral part of the Ward Team to ensure patients receive meals and drinks that meet their preferences and needs during their hospital stay.
To distribute, collect and analyse menu cards, including assisting patients with completion if necessary and assist in identifying appropriate meal choice to meet the patients’ needs and preferences
• To liaise with nurses, catering staff and dieticians to ensure patient food, nutritional/clinical needs and preferences are identified and met. Offer patients a choice of hot and cold beverages as and when required, a minimum of six times a day
• Ensure a regular supply of fresh water is provided to each patient throughout the day. To ensure a supply of fresh fruit are available to patients and prepare snacks as required
• Serve the patients their choice and portion size of main dish
• Food supplied is adequate in terms of presentation, quantity and quality and inform catering staff where there are problems. Adhere to the Food Handling and Hygiene Regulations at all times
• Liaise with the nurse in charge to identify patients who are not eating sufficiently and ensure completion of food intake and fluid charts
• To oversee the distribution, completion and collection of patient and catering satisfaction surveys at the agreed frequencies. Ensure effective communication take place between housekeeping and ward staff to maintain a seamless service
• When required to support the domestic team;
to undertake a full range of cleaning duties,

dietician or nurse
• Food supplied is adequate in terms of presentation, quantity and quality and inform catering staff where there are problems. Adhere to the Food Handling and Hygiene Regulations at all times
• Inform patients about the Hospital’s Food and Nutrition Policy and the procedure for any ad hoc requests for choosing from the range of food and beverages
• Liaise with the nurse in charge to identify patients who are not eating sufficiently and ensure completion of food intake and fluid charts
• To oversee the distribution, completion and collection of patient and catering satisfaction surveys at the agreed frequencies. Ensure effective communication take place between housekeeping and ward staff to maintain a seamless service
• When required to support the domestic team;
o to undertake a full range of cleaning duties, as per schedule, in a timely manner, ensuring working practices comply with all current policies and procedures relating to Control of Infection. COSHH and Health and Safety
o to undertake scheduled and ad hoc duties relating to environmental cleanliness and/or appearance of the area, such as curtain changing, patient bed cleaning, carpet shampooing etc.
