Summary

Working in Burnley’s award-winning parks and open spaces under the instruction of qualified trainers and experienced gardeners, you will gain skills and knowledge of landscape and horticultural operations such as operating machinery & equipment, maintenance of grass areas, hedge cutting and specimen pruning and the planting of trees, shrubs and other plants, litter removal and cleaning. You will also gain experience in ecological maintenance techniques.

You will also have opportunities to work across all areas of the Greenspaces & Amenities Unit including parks, sports fields, woodland management, playgrounds, and bereavement.

In partnership with Oldham College, you will complete training assignments and maintain a student portfolio, which will be assessed each month by a trainer, leading to a Level 2 Award in Amenity Horticulture.

We are looking for self-motivated people who aspire to develop themselves and are committed to learning. You will need a good school, college or work record of attendance, good communication skills and be able to satisfy basic literacy and numeracy requirements. You must be willing to work outdoors in all weather and be able to undertake physical work.
