Summary

Are you looking for a new challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for a two Support Workers to join our Supported Accommodation Services in Lancashire on a full time, permanent basis.

About the Service:

Barnardo's are proud to provide supported accommodation to young people aged 16-24 across a number of sites in Lancashire. The service aims to provide young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for independent living. The young people who live in our accommodation are from a range of backgrounds and are often either in care, in the process of Leaving Care or have experienced homelessness. Our services are staffed 24 hours a day by a dedicated team. Young people can live within our accommodation for up to 2 years so that they can move on successfully to their own accommodation in a planned and coordinated way.

Locations:

Post 1 - Preston Foyer – This service is based on Lawson Street in Preston and provides accommodation and support for up to 16 young people at any one time. The young people each have a self-contained 1-bedroom flat.

Post 2 - Merriweather - This service is based on Fishergate, Preston and provides accommodation and support for up to 11 young people at any one time. The young people each have a private bedroom with shared communal kitchen and living room facilities.

Working Pattern:

Our Service operates 7 days per week, 365 days per year. The successful candidate will work 5 shifts a week on a rota basis. Currently, all of our Support Workers at Merriweather work a mixture of the following shifts:

8am – 4pm

11am – 7pm

2pm – 10pm

Essential Requirements to evidence in your written application:

Experience of working with Young People and/or vulnerable adults.
Able to demonstrate a good understanding of safeguarding.
IT literate with the ability to accurately record information.
Most importantly, you will need to enjoy the challenges and rewards of working with young people!
Some of the main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

To support the young people in developing their independent living skills.
To safeguard the young people within the service, including reporting and responding to safeguarding disclosures and accessing support from relevant services and/or managers and/or emergency services when necessary.
To ensure all young people adhere to the House Code
To develop positive and professional working relationships with the young people to achieve positive outcomes through listening and one to one conversations.
To undertake general housekeeping and domestic tasks to maintain living standards.
Some lone working will be required.
The successful candidate will have a planned induction and will participate in training including Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Safeguarding, Emergency First Aid, Risk Assessment, Health & Safety.

There are always opportunities to develop your skills and get involved with different activities within the service. The successful candidate will be required to attend and participate in monthly supervision meetings with their line manager, an annual Performance & Development Review and be will be fully involved in our Team Meetings.
