The following are the core responsibilities of the medical secretary: 1. Processing referrals using the electronic referral system (ERS) 2. Typing letters and reports as required 3. Processing requests for information i.e. SAR, insurance / solicitors letters and DVLA forms 4. Liaising with external agencies such as hospitals and community services, to ensure referrals are processed in a timely manner 5. Answering and dealing with phone calls to the Medical Secretaries extension 6. Monitoring and actioning incoming emails to the Medical Secretaries mailbox 7. Maintaining an accurate referrals database 8. Inputting information into patients healthcare records 9. Supporting clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested 10. Managing all administrative queries and patient enquiries effectively and efficiently 11. Maintaining a clean and tidy working area at all times On occasions there may be a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels. Secondary Responsibilities In addition to the primary responsibilities, the medical secretary may be requested to: 1. Produce meeting agendas and record the minutes of meetings 2. Summarise incoming patients records
