The post is suitable for candidates who have completed Foundation training (or equivalent). It will provide specialized clinical vascular experience and research opportunities that will assist in preparing candidates for specialized training. The post is central to the delivery of vascular services at London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Trust by supporting emergency and elective services for patients with vascular pathology. The post will be primarily based at Northwick Park Hospital and focused on delivering ward, Hybrid Theatre, Angio Suite and Outpatient clinic support. The post will be involved in all aspects of the treatment and management of vascular patients. There will be plenty of opportunity to undertake research projects and Audits. The rota is structured on a 6 week rolling rota for 6 doctors. Each doctor will do 7 days of nights, 7 days of daytime ward cover; 5 days of late cover. The rest of their time will be for participation in the activities of the department and to undertake research.

The appointee will:



Participate in the continuous provision of vascular service provided by the Trust for patients admitted under the care of the vascular team and in addition cross cover for colleagues when required in a professional and flexible manner to support service delivery
• Participate fully with the multidisciplinary team in the care of vascular inpatients and outpatients
• To participate in the departments audit and research programmes under the supervision of nominated clinical supervisors.
• To take part in a 1:6 rotation (including nights and weekends) and to cover Urology in addition to vascular during night shifts. To offer vascular and urological opinions for medical patients. In the event of an emergency to assess and resuscitate patients that require it but it is not the post holder’s responsibility to deal with patients from other specialties which remains the sole responsibility of the team of the individual specialty.
• Attend handover at 08.00 and 20.00
• To be expected to participate in the assessment of emergency patients in the accident and emergency department.
• To be prepared to commute between the hub and other Trust Sites.
• Arrange emergency transfer of patients from spoke sites in to the hub site of Northwick Park if warranted ( following discussion with the admitting SPR/Consultant)
• To be prepared to supervise and teach more junior medical staff and students.
• To provide ward cover and attend clinics in accordance with the rota.

• The post holder should be prepared to perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. Commitments arising in such circumstances are, however, exceptional and the post holder will not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
• The person appointed should expect that duties may be re-allocated from time to time to fit in with alterations in circumstances, such as changes in Consultant staffing, introduction of new services, expansion or reduction of existing services
• Be expected to adhere to the Trusts infection Prevention and Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden of all Healthcare Associated infections including MRSA, Coivid
