What’s the Job?
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Transitions Coach to join the Education & Access Team on a fixed term contract.
The role of Transition Coach is to deliver a positive and supportive service in providing essential support to young people during their transition from previous destinations into college, under the direction of teaching staff, and helping them prepare for their next steps in their onward journey. This role will primarily focus on assisting students in overcoming barriers to learning, supporting successful transitions within the wider college as well as supporting the development of skills and readiness for next steps. The Transition Coach will support teaching staff in the delivery of effective educational experiences. The role will include the provision of support, motivation and assistance to students during class and non-class contact time when required.
The role would sit within the Dumfries and Galloway College’s Access Programmes and there would be opportunities to gain an insight into the range of pathways available for learners embarking on the transition to college.
Who we’re looking for
You will be an empathetic, patient and motivated person who can provide effective training in life skills including preparation for further education and pathways to employment.
You will be expected to role model good communication and team working with young people and work effectively using your own initiative.
To succeed in the role, you will ideally have:
• Ideally you will have a suitable qualification in Learning Support, Care or Coaching or have experience of working in a similar Support or Coaching role with young people aged from 16 years.
• Strong organisation/team working/relationship building skills.
• Be flexible and adaptable when situations occurs both to support the needs of learners and the department.
• Good/Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience using MS Office
• This post is required to be based on Campus
