Summary

Management and Leadership Provide clinical leadership and be a professional role model. Provide direct management for Band 6 colleagues. Coordinate clinical work with colleagues demonstrating effective time management skills and participates in the monitoring and reviewing of team performance. Lead change and supports management of change, including service development, through audit and service user feedback. Negotiation and influencing skills. Possess effective leadership skills by directly managing nursing staff and the teams, initiating evidence based strategies. Possess advanced communication skills and be confident to work rapidly and flexibly in the changing environment with resilience. To actively lead departmental meetings setting agendas, time scales and objectives and ensuring effective delivery of these. Actively lead and develop change. To manage complaints, or assist as required. Produce risk assessments and action plans for the service. Provide assistance to staff in dealing with difficult situations, conflict and other professional clinical issues. To have a working knowledge and understanding of the budget, and work within available resources. Be an active part in the recruitment process including short listing and interviewing. Initiate evidence based strategies, promoting service development, improvements and quality expansion and efficiencies, reducing waste. Participate in networking opportunities. Work closely with key members of the team from primary and secondary care to alter the management plan as appropriate whilst communicating and accurately documenting and changes in a timely manner. Support service provision within the local area and wider foundation trust. Adhere to trust clinical governance, equality and diversity policy through ethical decision-making. Assess and manage risk. Encourage service user and public involvement. Promote and support effective implementation of all organisational policies and procedures, and practice in accordance with them. Participate in and contribute to all activities associated with the teams response to current trends and changes within the NHS. Clinical Responsibilities NMC nursing registration. To autonomously co-ordinate a case load of complex TB patients, across the community TB specialist service, within nurse led clinic and home environments, Monday-Friday, being the key point of contact, and advocate, for a designated group of patients. Notify UKHSA of all new active cases of TB Provide specialist knowledge of disease specific care pathways. Provide advanced understanding of respiratory anatomy and pathophysiology and the function and management of TB diseases with ability to undertake a detailed holistic patient assessment including social and psychological well-being and progress treatment interventions and adapt interventions, within set protocols. Eligible BCG vaccination administration for neonates, children and adults. Review clinical results. New entrant screening and contact tracing for all eligible patients. Accurately record clinical data and understand its significance including heart rate and rhythm, respiratory rate, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, plus use of health related questionnaires and patient reported outcome measures. Clearly understand the benefits of non-pharmacological interventions for TB disease including smoking cessation, weight management and nutrition, and, physical activity. Promote health and healthy informed choices. Possess awareness, knowledge and implementation of safeguarding processes in relation to children, vulnerable patients and carers. Liase with multi-disciplinary teams and local stakeholders, referring as appropriate. Attend mandatory training and maintain evidence based practice. Be accountable for maintaining skills and revalidation. Understand motivational skills and empathetic communication. Complete effective record keeping which demonstrate the decision making process, care planned and given, as well as patient outcomes in accordance with Trust policy and legal requirements. Work within codes of practice and professional guidelines. Commit to continuous personal development/lifelong learning by attending mandatory training, use of eLearning and adhere to all trust policies and procedures. Understand owns role within the wider multidisciplinary team and articulate own developmental needs through attending clinical supervision, 1:1 sessions, undertaking appraisal preparation and contributing to objective setting and personal development planning. Educational Responsibilities Be a role model providing mentorship and coaching to the team. Provide positive well-being support to team. Support development of registered staff and students, and, other staff as appropriate, within the specialist field, through possessing relevant teaching, coaching and mentoring skills, with the ability to adapt to the audience. Provide and support training for the multidisciplinary team in the management of complex TB disease. Regularly attend and participate in training, peer support and clinical supervision Support others to develop knowledge and skills. Promote learning/creation of learning environment. Service user/carer teaching and information giving. Develop service user/carer education materials. Be a resource for improving health. Contribute to the body of nursing knowledge, through presentation. Support local patient groups, including hospice, providing education. Research Perform research, audit and quality improvement and participate in the monitoring of standards of care, and audit of nursing/therapy practice which is research based and supports the clinical governance framework, plus have the ability to implement research findings into practice, including use and development of policies/protocols and, digital technology, through guidelines.
