An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a speech and language assistant to join our friendly and supportive community stroke team. We are looking for a creative and empathetic individual to join the Stroke Early Supported Discharge team in an assistant role, to support the assessment and treatment of stroke patients with their own home. Their will be the need to work holistically taking on other rehabilitation and administrative duties to best support the patients and the team.

Supporting the assessment and treatment of stroke patients discharged back to their place of residence from the hyper-acute and rehabilitation wards within our local hospitals. Providing intensive therapy and working within a close multi-disciplinary team to provide the holistic care that the patient requires. Ensuring onward referrals and patient information provided in a timely manner.
We can offer you training and guidance to be able to deliver programmes of therapy under the direction of a qualified speech and language therapist, for patients with communication and swallowing impairments. As well as training from other members of the team on other elements of the job such as having the confidence to take a patient out into the community, understanding cognitive issues, etc. Equally important are your natural observation, listening and communication skills, flexibility and to work well as part of a team and demonstrate initiative and the ability to multitask. You will be required to undertake routine administrative duties to support the work of the team such as data collection, report writing, sharing information with SLT community teams, photocopying and preparing therapy worksheets.
