Join us as a Legal Trainee

  • You’ll benefit from great variety in this role and the opportunity to continually develop yourself
  • This role is offered as a two year fixed-term contract, though may be extended for part-time employment and we can offer a flexible working arrangement where 4-6 days per month are required in the office

What you'll do

As a Legal Trainee, you’ll be providing legal advice to non-lawyers in collaboration with stakeholders and your legal colleagues to ensure the timely and effective delivery of all issues, projects and initiatives.

Our Legal Trainees follow a two year programme across different legal areas. This may include a six month secondment to one of the leading UK law firms on our panel.

You’ll also be:

  • Helping to input legal advice into stakeholder's projects in a commercial, user friendly and efficient manner
  • Assisting with managing stakeholders in successfully delivering advice on a timely basis
  • Helping the team to attain high performance standards with a focus on development opportunities and proactive succession planning

We’re looking for someone who’s focused on developing their knowledge in the legal field. You’ll have knowledge of the principal regulatory and legal framework within which the bank operates, along with an awareness of, and interest in, emerging legal and regulatory changes.

You'll have a Scots Law LLB qualification or will have completed the pre-PEAT training contract and the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the start of this training contract.

You’ll also need:

  • Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills
  • The ability to understand, and keep up to date with, emerging legal risks and issues
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships
  • The ability to gain the respect of external professional contacts and work to high performance targets
