DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following are examples of the duties the apprentice will undertake under supervision and following training and competency assessment: Learn and undertake a range of Imaging Procedures under the supervision of a Radiographer, using established departmental guidelines, policies and procedures. Learn and develop the necessary skills to maintain a high standard of Imaging techniques Participate in a 24-hour shift pattern Utilise the department electronic information systems to maintain the electronic management of a patient throughout their time in Imaging departments, entering required data as specified in the department policies and comply with government and trust Information governance policies Learn and assist in departmental quality assurance programmes Move and handle patients, x-ray equipment, moving and handling devices and other medical equipment provided safely and correctly, as directed by Trust and department guidelines, policies and procedures Develop and maintain effective dialogue between patients, departmental staff and all referring clinical areas Exercise judgment and empathy when dealing with patient enquiries and develop problem solving skills Liaise and report regularly with your practice mentor and supervising radiographers Under the supervision of radiographers, provide information and advice to patients, relatives and other medical staff about radiation safety and radiation issues Communicate to patients and visitors in an empathic and reassuring manner to enable the imaging examinations to be undertaken and diagnosis or treatment to be provided Always work under the direct supervision of a named supervising radiographer Act as a team player and develop and maintain effective relationships with all team members Rotate through all imaging departments as part of your clinical learning Develop and maintain high working standards by as directed by Exeter university practice modules, HCPC, SoR, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and Imaging department policies, guidelines and procedures As part of clinical placements, participate in shift systems as directed by imaging departments Partake in department and clinical audit and research projects where appropriate Attend mandatory courses as required by the trust Attend and participate in department staff meetings Participate in the appraisal systems of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust Use the departmental computerized patient information system efficiently Report any malfunction or breakdown of any X-ray equipment to the lead radiographer, completing department equipment records and taking appropriate action if the equipment is unsafe Under the supervision of radiographers, develop the skills to identify and manage challenging behaviour in a tactful and sensitive manner Upon qualifying to maintain the professional standards as set out by the HCPC and to continue to uphold the trust standards and values. If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
