Who we are:
The Grace Eyre Foundation is a charity based in Brighton & Hove and the wider Sussex community that has been working with people with a Learning Disability and autistic people since 1898. Our mission is to work towards being led by people with Learning Disabilities and autistic people to deliver high-quality housing, support and activities in their local communities. The people we support tell us that they want “good support from kind and friendly people” – so that is what we are looking for!
Introduction: Grace Eyre has an ambitious Employment Strategy from 2020 till 2027 to increase the employment of people with learning disabilities and/ or autism in the Sussex area. We are delighted to have received an Adult Education tender with West Sussex Council and have received funding to support two distinct delivery strands of support:
1) Learning for Life
Delivering a learning programme on life skills, digital inclusion and wider community engagement to contribute towards learners’ confidence, independence and skills development.
2) Learning for Work
Delivering group work and individual support to people with learning disabilities and/ or autism in supporting them on their next steps towards employment.
Brief outline of the role
As an Employability and Skills Coordinator, you will be a dynamic, upbeat and motivated individual who can lead on the coordination on the delivery of these courses to the people we support, i.e. on life skills or work skills.
The successful candidate will need to be successful in organizing and consulting with partner agencies and freelance tutors to ensure the various targets and objectives within the programme are met. Familiarity of the requirements of accreditation work is needed. You will work with a small team of freelancers and an admin worker to support this.
You will need a strong track record on working with adults with a Learning Disability and/or Autism to support them attain their own personal and professional development goals. The successful candidate will need a proven track record in successfully liaising with partner agencies. You will be part of a dynamic and growing employability team which forms part of our overall Active Lives offer. Strong IT skills, flexibility and resilience are important as well.
While Active Lives has a strong record on Employability and Skills development; working in West Sussex will be new to Active Lives and we are eager and open to new ways of working and developing new partnerships. The postholder will look to this role to build on existing links and support new ones.
The role will be primarily based in Brighton but working across Sussex. Delivery expected to occur in Worthing, Crawley and Chichester.
Active Lives’ current base in Hove may be changing within the next six months. You will be kept fully informed of this but it will be within the central Brighton & Hove area. So being flexible and resilient are important parts of this role. Hybrid working is certainly required to complete this role successfully.
