Summary
PLEASE DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU ARE RESIDENT IN THE UK OR YOU HAVE AN EXISTING RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK / PRE-SETTLED OR SETTLED STATUS. YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED AND YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN EXISTING RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK. Apple harvester and farm husbandry. As an apple harvester you need to be physically fit, be able to pick apples gently from the tree with your hands placing them into a bucket which you wear in front of you on your shoulders. You will need to be able to carry this (approx 12KG) until full and carefully empty into apple bins in the orchard. You will need to be physically capable of doing this all day (approx 8-10 hours) IN ALL WEATHERS. This is a job equally available to men and women of all ages 18+ but it is dependent upon physical ability to do the job carefully and consistently. Rates of pay are the NMW as a minimum and include holiday pay and may also include piecework or bonuses for quality, productivity and completion of harvest. All work requires you to work in a team, as a team. We mostly work 6 days a week in harvest (approx 48 hours, harvest and weather permitting) and the work can be weather dependent. There are periods when we are waiting for the crop to be ready and the weather may not be appropriate. We try not to pick in the rain unless we have to as it bruises the fruit but you should have clothes for all seasons - wellington boots for the mornings and trainers for the drier warmer days as well as waterproofs. Even if it is dry, the trees and ground can be wet with dew. You need to be comfortable working outside in the orchards all day and you should bring food and water etc for you to have through the day. We stop for unpaid breaks in the morning (15 mins), lunchtime (30 mins), and afternoon (15 mins). We pay biweekly by bank transfer. Shared hostel style accommodation is available but is highly sought after so if you are applying from far away (but you must have a proven UK address or right to work in the UK), please make it clear that you need accommodation. At this second stage we do not have spare accommodation but we will place you on a reserve list. It is essential you are able to commit to work when our harvest demands so please do not apply if you can only work shorter hours or part days. If you are over 21, in a normal week in full harvest you would likely earn £549.12 for 48 hours plus holiday pay or entitlement. We may also pay piecework to allow you to earn extra for the more you do at the best quality. Our harvest is 4-8 weeks so your commitment would earn you approximately £3000 to £4000 over our harvest September / October (depending on our harvest and your commitment). We actively favour UK workers with a right to work but you must demonstrate your commitment to coming to work, getting yourself to work on time and being a productive team member. You will receive training but this job requires physical and mental commitment to be part of our harvest team.
