Design Draughtsperson

Would you like to work with an award-winning boatbuilding company based in waterside offices near Falmouth, Cornwall - the perfect destination for sailors, surfers and beach lovers? Cockwells is a growing company; globally respected in the marine industry. We build luxury motor launches, sailing yachts and superyacht tenders. We are equally at home with modern, technologically advanced vessels as with classic boatbuilding.

Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding Ltd are renowned for working at the cutting edge of technology and innovation, fusing the artisan skills of the shipwright with modern materials and methods and are looking for an efficient and creative Design Draughtsperson to join their design team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of drawings for our current superyacht tender projects as well as developing new conceptual work for future projects.

Designers with experience in the industry would be preferred for this role.

Job description

After initial induction and familiarisation with the company, the successful candidate will report to the Design Director in this busy, growing organisation. New designs and production drawings will be created for a range of luxury superyacht tenders. The candidate will:

Provide accurate information and drawings to the production team for in-build superyacht tenders
3D model (and occasionally render) the latest concepts
Provide technical support by keeping technical files up to date and research additional hardware to be specified in designs.
Keep the network in order with correct version control on documents.

About You:

The successful candidate will have experience in the industry and be confident in producing a wide range of 2D drawings and 3D models for a variety of components required in the build of a Cockwells superyacht tender. Using Rhino3D, you will be able to produce technical drawings to our exacting quality standards, ensuring the successful delivery of relevant and accurate information ready for use by the shop floor or by subcontractors. This could include 3D models being sent away for 3D printing or CNC cutting.

Essential Requirements:

· Proficient in the use of Rhino3D

· Ability to set out a technical drawing

· Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with continually changing priorities

· 3D rendering skills

· Creative person with the ability to problem solve

· Ability to communicate clearly and professionally

· Good communication of ideas (Sketch/presentation techniques)

· Happy to work with others and to an existing drawing system

· Have marine knowledge

· Good time management

Other Desirable Requirements

· Degree level qualification in Yacht and Powercraft Design (or similar)

· Good knowledge of materials properties and construction techniques

· Engineering design
