Simulator Engineer (163jc) – Home Based – circa £30k + Benefits

My client is an established training and competence consultancy, and they are seeking to enhance their simulator maintenance IT and electronics engineering team to meet increasing demand.

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

For this role you will be based in the North of England, where the majority of your allocated simulators will be based. However, you will require occasional travel across Great Britain and Northern Ireland and also Eire, as well as occasional visits to the simulator manufacturer based in Southern France – usually every two years for a simulator conference.

Your role will involve using your IT (Windows based systems) and electronic/electrical fault-finding skills utilising available schematics and other engineers’ experience to diagnose and rectify faults on complex simulators used in the training of individuals. Your developed fault-finding skills plus the ability to work alone to exacting standards in a timely manner and strong inter-personal skills will be used to enhance the company reputation in the sector. There will also be a requirement for planned and unplanned simulator maintenance activities and reporting of simulator status.

To be eligible for this role you will need the following skills, knowledge and experience:
• Strong knowledge of Windows based servers including operating systems and hardware replacement.
• Computer networking skills
• The ability to read, interpret and act on schematic wiring diagrams to aid fault diagnosis.
• The ability to work alone in a timely manner, meeting targets and deadlines.
• DIY skills for task that may involve assembling. mounting / repairing equipment hardware.
• Accurate and timely documentation.

Other attributes
• Confident working alone but can seamlessly integrate into a team for major work.
• “Can do” attitude.
• Excellent communication / documentation skills – including work planning & scheduling.
• Self-motivated.
• As a lone worker, aware of safe working practices for their own and others safety.
• Be able to pass enhanced vetting (some clients require security background searches).
• Be prepared for and pass random drugs & alcohol testing whilst on client’s sites should they be required to do so.

Travel for site visits is predominantly by train so easy access to train station is advantageous. However, on occasions where vehicle transport is required this is normally re imbursed via motor mileage expenses claim for personal vehicle use. Your main sites will include such locations as Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Sunderland, York, Doncaster, Manchester, Belfast, and Dublin, however there are numerous sites in the Midlands and Southern England which may also require to provide cover on occasion. All tools, equipment and PPE are supplied by the company.

The ideal candidate would be someone who has a strong electro mechanical background who likes working on which are essentially massive gaming type equipment for a fully immersive training environment.

In return they are offering a good starting salary, with 5% of salary as a potential company bonus, 25 days + Bank holidays, with a standard working week Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm.
