Independent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) is one of the UK’s leading independent aerospace and industrial forgers. The unique feature about IFA is the combination of open and closed-die forging while also undertaking the whole production process from raw material to the finished product in one location. Operating from a 680 000ft2 facility in Sheffield, we manufacture high-integrity, open-die and closed-die forged components in nickel alloy, titanium, stainless steel and carbon alloys for customers and tier-one suppliers within the aerospace, nuclear, power generation, marine as well as oil and gas sector.
Main Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Forge Supervisor, you will support the First Hand in the effective production of specification forgings, in meeting customer requirements and IFA Ltd production targets through the effective utilisation and control of forge equipment and tooling. This also includes the best use of furnaces whilst adhering to all relevant necessary procedures. You will be trained on various roles within the forge crew, including a forging manipulator driver and press driver.
Key Accountabilities
Maintaining accurate identity and location record of components in the furnaces.
Maintaining and selecting the appropriate tools and techniques to produce the components to the required dimensional integrity/specification.
Ensuring components’ straightness and conformity to dimensions.
Maintenance and selection of appropriate punches for use during ring forging processes
Handling and aligning punches appropriately.
Effective prioritisation and co-ordination of workload for best equipment utilisation.
Retaining accurate identification of components for processing and traceability in accordance with customer requirements as shown by the route card.
Instructing, guiding and advising appropriately manipulator and equipment operators.
Calling a halt to processing through recognition of defective material or equipment malfunction.
Work with shift colleagues to ensure efficient and effective operations.
As necessary, liaise with other departments.
Ensure best use and maintenance of safe working practices.
Maintaining excellent housekeeping.
Essential:
Good understanding of forging best practice to material processing (Hydraulic Press and / or Hammer).
Good understanding of key operating procedures.
General manufacturing awareness.
Proven planning and organisational skills.
Ability to follow standard operation procedures (SOP).
General awareness of health and safety.
Good attention to detail.
Team player.
Proactive and practical approach.
Good communication skills.
Qualifications
