This is where your fun begins as an Infrastructure Engineer, Platform as a Product. With our customers at the heart of your approach, we want you to work at the leading edge of technological transformation to explore new technologies, meddle with the status quo, and approach failure as a building block of innovation to solve complex issues rapidly and iteratively for our customers. We engineer, we protect, we operate in NatWest Digital X.
Day to day, you’ll be:
- Actively engaging and collaborating with architects, dependency engineering teams, product owners, and customers to design, engineer and operate our Cloud products and services
- Instilling and advocating the adoption of Site Reliability Engineering practices, supporting cloud engineering to deliver efficient, operationally stable and highly available products
- Conducting engineering play and experimentation with new technologies and test ideas to generate innovative solutions for our customers
- Collaborating with our customers, vendors, and other tech teams to build simple, available, and scalable solutions
- Engineering public and private cloud products that are safe, secure, and sustainable
- Utilising infrastructure as code (IaC) to develop, deploy and scale cloud applications and products with greater speed, less risk, and reduced costs
- Encouraging the use of automation to provide testing and a route to go-live for new products
- Acting as a technical leader, demonstrating active participation towards the support of our technology communities of practice across the bank by sharing engineering best practice and experience
- Using market insights to introduce innovative ideas and driving the delivery of these through to product features
- Maintaining engineered products by responding to customer feedback, new feature requests, production issues, and customer help requests
- Coaching and mentoring other engineers and collaborating on developmental activities
The skills you'll need

Your technical skillset might include:
- Strong technical leadership skills, and the ability to relate day to day work to the strategic vision including setting the strategy, technical roadmaps and design
- Exceptional cloud engineering experience and technical capabilities of Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and AWS
- The ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and effectively
- Excellent knowledge of DevOps automation and tools like Terraform, IaC, Python, and GitLab including Gitlab Runners
- Strong automation scripting skills using Ansible and Bash
- Practical experience of the Software Developer Lifecycle and testing
- A solid practical understanding of Agile methodologies and toolsets such as Jira and Confluence
- Some knowledge across the infrastructure stack such as server, operating system, virtualisation, database, middleware or network
And you'll bring this all together with your:
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills
- Capacity to focus on the customer and empathise with them
- Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to different audiences
- Experience of contributing to roadmaps and strategies
- Drive to make sure that solutions have security considered from the outset
