Community Based

Lambeth is a borough of diversity and rich cultural history. It is full of excitement and opportunity, but we know that we also have long standing challenges to overcome. Lambeth has long been the home of radicals and reformers, entrepreneurs and innovators, working together to help change the lives of others and their own. To continue that tradition, and meet our ambition of becoming a Borough of Equity and Justice, we’re looking for a passionate, innovative community development worker to help residents shape and deliver change for their communities. Does that sound like you? Then look no further!

We’re working in partnership with residents across the Angell Town Estate. Angell Town has a long, proud history of resident’s and local community organisations working together to improve the lives and day to day experiences of residents across the Angell Town Estate. To support this, Lambeth council has been working with residents to identify their local priorities and develop shared plans, and support activity across the community to deliver change.

As part of Lambeth’s 2030 plan, the council set out a commitment to working differently with Lambeth’s residents - We’re aiming to build new partnerships that build trust with residents, enable local organisations and residents to deliver change in their communities, and inform the work of the council for that neighbourhood.

To build on the history of work with Angell Town residents, we are looking to appoint a new Community Development worker to work with residents across the estate to identify a set of local priorities, plan and coordinate engagement activity, and enable delivery that bring together residents, local organisations, the council and other partners to achieve change across the Angell Town Estate. This is not a traditional council role; this role is about partnership. You’ll be based in the community, working across the council, residents and partners and with accountability to residents and the council alike. We’re looking for someone with a commitment to innovation, engagement, partnership and delivering change. Does that sound like you? Then get in touch!

About the Role

This role will be responsible for the overall planning and coordination of the Angell Town Development Project, including:

  • Working with residents, the council and local organisations to identify an agreed set of priorities for change on the Angell Town Estate, ensuring that these priorities are reflecting of the views and needs of the range of communities living on the Angell Town Estate.
  • Planning and coordinating all necessary community engagement, communication and events needed to successfully deliver this work, working with local residents and organisations to ensure that the project works with residents from all communities living on the Angell Town Estate.
  • Acting as a focal point for local residents and organisations, helping to coordinate the range of council activity taking place on Angell Town, ensuring a coherent joined up approach.
  • Helping residents and local organisations navigate council structures and build relationships with relevant council officers and teams.
  • Reporting progress of the project to residents, the council and other partners, celebrating successes and identifying issues that need to be overcome.

Whilst a contract for the work will be with Lambeth Council, the project will be overseen by a group of local residents and organisations working in partnership with the council. The post holder may have a small sum of budget to support engagement and development events. It will not manage budgets for the provision of services or support on Angell Town Estate.
