The Role - Grounds Maintenance Operative

We are currently looking to recruit several enthusiastic grounds maintenance operatives to maintain public gardens, grass verges, community fields and grassed areas along the public highways throughout the Castle Point area. Full training would be provided and duties would include mowing, headge strimming and basic flowerbed maintenance. The suitable person will be ideally be based around the Canvey Island area and would be travelling to sites across the Castle Point area so a full UK Driving Licence would be essential.

This will be a seasonal position which ends at the end of September.

Hours are 6.30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday

Duties/Key Responsibilities

• The safe use of ride-on mowers, rotary mowers, strimmer’s, leaf blowers and other horticultural machines
• Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, and pruning
• Lawn maintenance and repairs
• Bed preparation and planting
• Hedge and shrub trimmingKeeping the borders, clear and free from debris and litter at all times
• To keep the tools clean and damage free, report to manager when necessary
• Ensuring that all visited locations are left in a clean and tidy state
• Maintenance of records relating to tasks performed, materials and equipment
• Promotion of safe working practices
• Reporting any faulty equipment, damage, vandalism, or potential hazard to the Contract Manager
• Promote and ensure the good reputation of the company
• Carry out any other duties commensurate with the position
• Care and maintenance of company vehicle and reporting any damage or defects
• Use of Job Watch to carry out the jobs everyday

Skills Required

• Resilience under pressure.
• Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
• Grounds maintenance or gardening experience would be essential.
• Ability to work to laid down schedules.
• Ability to work as part of a team and use own initiative.
• Enthusiasm, drive, ambition and commitment.
• Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and safety procedures.
