Job OverviewWe are looking for a Waste Operative to join our team; to undertake the collection, movement, sorting, processing and dispatch of waste and other materials. This includes the use of compaction and shredding equipment .
In the role, you'll be capable of working and staying compliant to Health and Safety regulations and monitoring the performance of equipment. You'll provide support to the On-Site Waste Coordinator to complete site objectives, and make sure to follow PPE guidance.
To be successful in this role, it is essential to have a driving license, must be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions , be capable of carrying out manual handling tasks and have a good level of communicative English. You'll be detail conscious and hold excellent time management skills to follow tight deadlines. You will also be required to pass a DBS Check and undertake a drugs/alcohol screening test prior to starting.
The ideal candidate will have experience in Health & Safety with an understanding of waste management and environmental legislation.
Main Duties
-Ensure the segregation of varying waste streams into the appropriate containment to maintain expected recycling and landfill diversion targets.
-Operating onsite waste machinery and equipment eg Shredder / baler / FLT.
-Conduct bin collections / support as second man around the Sellafield and outer Sites.
-Maintain good housekeeping standards at all times.
-Implement Site Polices as directed by the Site Supervisor & Client.
-Liaise with the Site Supervisor and Client as required with a ‘can do' approach ensuring waste is collected in a timely manner.
-To be able to work well on own initiative but more importantly as part of a team.
-Be able to work with and support other Mitie staff on site.
-Monitoring Client non-conformances and reporting back to management accordingly.
-Ensure individual collections of paper bag waste, WEEE, Batteries and Toners are completed in a timely manner in line with work requests received from the helpdesk and in line with Site Procedures and Processes.
-Ensure Site wide collections of historic / legacy wastes around the Site.
-Liaise with the Projects Teams and Maintenance Teams to ensure that Project / PPM waste is collected at source at the time of work completion.
-Ensure wastes are stored compliantly once taken back to the holding facility in line with administrator requirements.
-Comply with CLESA gatehouse operating procedures including waste disposal & environmental protection .

-Ideally previous knowledge of the Waste and Recycling sector and relevant experience.

-Job is hands on; it can be physical and can involve working in adverse weather.
