Brighter Futures for Children is an independent, not-for-profit-company, wholly owned by Reading Borough Council. Our responsibility is to deliver quality children's services, early help, education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services in the borough.



About the role:

Our Adoption & Permanence Service sits within our Children’s Social Care Service. This is an exciting opportunity to take a key role in managing the Service, which brings together a number of our permanency services including, but not limited to:

Permanency Planning for all Children Looked After aged up to 14 years.
Family finding for children with Care Plans of permanent fostering.
The assessment of Connected Carers and Special Guardians.
The registration of Private Foster Carers and monitoring and supporting private fostering arrangements.
Supervision of and support to Connected Carers.
The provision of Special Guardianship Support Services.
The management of the BFfC Permanence Allowance Scheme.
Liaison with our RAA and the day-to-day management of our RAA contract.
The provision of support and advise to social workers and managers across the local authority, with regards to achieving and maintaining permanent placements for Children Looked After.
The completion of Life Books and setting up of contact arrangement for adopted children.




Working in partnership with the Head of Service and Service Manager for Corporate Parenting, Fostering, Special Guardianship & Adoption, our Adoption & Permanence Team Manager holds accountability for the operational management and supervision of our Adoption & Permanence Team, including case allocation, resource and performance management, quality assurance and partnership working. This is a leadership role which will require the successful applicant to positively influence the future development of the team and staff group and the experience of children, young people and families. The post holder will also need to work closely with the Team Managers in our front-line Children & Families Teams, our IFA, and our Commissioning Team, in order to ensure the provision of timely and well-co-ordinated services. The post holder will directly line manage approximately 6 direct supervisees and will supervise, manage, monitor and control service budgets.

Please note: Brighter Futures for Children operates a flexible working model; however, all Social Care managers are generally expected to be office based for three days a week (average), and to maintain a flexible approach in responding to service demands.

Professional supervision will be available and Individual professional objectives will be set as part of your continuous professional development and will be reviewed through professional supervision and annual appraisals (with six monthly review).
